MYTH: Cataract surgery can be avoided if one stops reading.
FACT: Cataract is not caused because of reading or using the computer for long hours. The causes are either age related, drug intake related, trauma or diabetes.
MYTH: With advancing age vision will be slowly lost.
FACT: Vision problems can occur as one gets older. Presbyopia or reduced near vision and cataract are more likely to occur in the elderly. When one is operating for cataract, one can get rid of the presbyopia by using multifocal lenses.
